This stainless steel wheel carrier is the natural successor to the highly popular Nakatanenga single pivot wheel carrier and has been designed and made exclusively out of stainless steel for Nakatanenga in Germany.

It is well known that the weight of a spare wheel in the long run takes its toll on the rear door of Land Rover Defenders. It is common that the first cracks appear in the frame of the rear door after no more than 5 years or 33,000 miles depending on the strain. There are two possible solutions for this, mount the tyre somewhere other than the rear door (with TD4’s the bonnet is no longer an alternative mounting point) or install this stainless steel wheel carrier.

It relieves the rear door completely and swings away when you open the door with it on. The carrier is mounted on the rear cross member; a plate is fixed to the existing holes in the door, which in turn is connected by means of two stainless steel ball and socket joints with the wheel carrier.

The wheel carrier has been intensively tested, including in the Rally “Grand Erg”, and combines easy installation without the need to drill the body with high load capacity and excellent operability. The bearing is maintenance free, the entire carrier stainless with the exception of the wheel studs. It is compatible with the genuine Land Rover NAS step and tow bar.

 

Single Pivot Wheel carrier is stainless steel which requires no drilling of body work, however two existing holes in the cross member need enlarging slightly.

Suitable for Post-2002 vehicles

This is the Black Powder Coated version but it is also available in uncoated stainless steel.

    Fitted to 2015 model year 110 UW Excellent product very well engineered and very easy to fit if you don’t have them get the special trim tools to remove door card, as it makes it so much easier. Only issue I had was a gap between rear body tub and mounting plate ( due probably to land rover build tolerance) I machined a plate up in my work shop and sprayed black to fill the gap a couple of shims supplied with the wheel would be a good addition to the kit, penny washers would do it but would spoil what is otherwise a really good looking bit of kit. Slap some waxoyl between the rear cross member and the mounting plate when fitting to cut the risk of rusting behind the plate.

    This is probably the best piece of kit I’ve fitted to my 110… the carrier is made to a very high standard and all components are excellent. The drop in rattle and noise is a blessing, I also fitted a door strut at the same time – combination is a delight. Easy to fit, adjust and it very stable with wheel hung… I have a NAS step which had to be removed to fit a couple of the mounting bolts and one hole needs drilling to a bigger size. Easy DIY task… Still walk past, or open the rear door and admire the quality. Not cheap but well worth the extra cost, and it will stay smart and not rust! Could not recommend it enough…
